Portable doorbells all use batteries to power the chimes, although some can also be used with mains adapters, and the Byron Model SX-201i and SX-220iw are rechargeable from a mains powered cradle. They have the benefit of being placed anywhere without a permanent fixing. The Friedland Libra+ models come with a small length of mounting plastic which allows this range to be both wall mountable and portable.
Some models are designed to be small and compact, such as the Byron SX-205. This model has a belt attachment, and also vibrates. Portable models can be particularly useful for hearing visitors when in the garden, although 200 meter models should be selected to be confident of getting a good wireless signal. Please note that if the bell push button is attached to a UPVC door frame, the metal backing to the UPVC will reduce signal strength. Most chimes use common batteries such as AA or C type. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended, since the output battery voltage is generally lower than required.
