Portable doorbells all use batteries to power the chimes, although some can also be used with mains adapters. They have the benefit of being placed anywhere without a permanent fixing. The Friedland Libra+ models come with a small length of mounting plastic which allows this range to be both wall mountable and portable.
Portable models can be particularly useful for hearing visitors when in the garden, although 200 metre models should be selected to be confident of getting a good wireless signal. Please note that if the bell push button is attached to a UPVC door frame, the metal backing to the UPVC will reduce signal strength. Most chimes use common batteries such as AA or C type. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended, since the output battery voltage is generally lower than required.
